Usually, an oral dose of 1g of most barbiturate like Amobarbital induces serious poisoning in an adult. Toxic effects and fatalities occur following overdoses of amobarbital sodium alone. Death commonly occurs after 2 to 10 g of ingested barbiturate like Amobarbital.
Symptoms of oral overdose may occur within 15 minutes.
In extreme overdose, all electrical activity in the brain may cease. Complications such as pneumonia, pulmonary edema, cardiac arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, and renal failure may occur.

PO/IM/IV 30 to 50 mg twice daily or 3 times daily.
